The Breaking of the Fellowship
"Then it has all been in vain! The Fellowship has failed"
Gimli

The Fellowship leaves Lothlórien with their individual gifts as well as a good supply of Elven Waybread known as Lembas. They are also gifted three Elven boats to help them further their journey to Mordor. They leave the Golden Wood in these boats and travel towards Parth Galen via the Great River Anduin.
It is here at Parth Galen that the remaining members of the Fellowship divide. The Gondorian Man, Boromir, who has been tempted by the Ring throughout the quest makes to take it from Frodo who consequentially leaves the Fellowship to head for Mordor alone, however Sam finds him and they leave in one of the Elvish boats to make their own way there. An ambush of a host of Orcs splits the group further. Boromir dies trying to save the remaining two hobbits who are kidnapped by the Orcs.

Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli must face a difficult choice; do they follow Frodo and Sam and attempt to continue helping them with their journey, or do they try to find Merry and Pippin and save them from the cruel hands of the Orcs. Together the Man, Elf and Dwarf put Boromir into one of the two remaining Elven boats and packed about him with the weapons of his slain foes and the Horn of Gondor they send him over the falls of Rauros and then leave Parth Galen to help their friends.
