Éowyn
"You are the daughter of kings, a shield maiden of Rohan..."
Aragorn

Éowyn has seen much grief in her life. Both her parents died when she was still very young leaving her and her brother, Éomer, alone. Luckily her mother's brother, Théoden, took both children in and raised them as his own. She has watched her Uncle succumb to the influence of Gríma Wormtongue, and tended to her cousin, Théodred, who had been like a brother to her, as he lay dying.
Éowyn is still just a young woman, yet she has seen much in her years and longs to be like her father and cousin, to die fighting for her kingdom. When she first sets eyes on Aragorn in the Golden Hall after Gandalf has released Théoden from Saruman's spell, she instantly falls for him, depite the fact that he already loves another. All the same she wishes to proove herself to him and can think of no other man that she could possibly love.
Despite Éowyn's longing for war and action her Uncle Théoden will not allow her to fight and so she must watch as the men she loves go off to war, and possibly to their deaths, without her by their sides. However she may yet find hope and happiness in the world.
