The Dead Marshes
There are dead things, dead faces in the water
Sam

Frodo and Sam must put their faith in Gollum as he leads them across the treacherous Dead Marshes. It was here many thousands of years ago that a great battle was fought against the Dark Lord Sauron. Many Elves and Men perished and it was during this pattle that the One Ring was taken from Sauron and claimed by Isildur.
Beneath the murky water of the marshes the hobbits catch glimspes of the dead Men, Elves and Orcs, whilst all around them are ghostly lights. Gollum warns Frodo and Sam against looking at them, otherwise the hobbits will find themselves being pulled down into the dark depths to drown.
As they travel across the Dead Marshes Frodo, Sam and Gollum see the Nazgūl's new steeds, when one of the Nazgūl flies overhead. At this point Frodo struggles to fight temptation and put on the Ring to reveal himself to the Dark Lord. Luckily Sam manages to stop him and once the beast has passed they continue, quickly reaching the safety of the far side.
True to his word Gollum has led the hobbit's across the Dead Marshes, and later he takes them right up the the Black Gate. But it is obvious that there is no way that Frodo and Sam could get into Mordor that way, as it is too heavily guarded, so Gollum mentions another way, a secret and less travelled way. So the trio set off in the direction of Ithilien to enter Mordor from the back way.
