Boromir of Gondor
"It is a gift. A gift to the foes of Mordor"
Boromir

Boromir is the oldest son of Denethor - Steward of Gondor, whose family have taken the Stewardship since Elendil's son, Isildur, fell at the Gladden Fields. Although they will rule until Isildur's Heir returns, it has been such a long time that none now expect his return.
Boromir arrives at Rivendell in the hope that the Elves will be able to interpret his recurrent dream which tells of the waking of 'Isildur's Bane' - the cause of the High King's death. At The Last Homely House he learns that this is the One Ring which is being borne by the hobbit, Frodo Baggins. Gondor is the closest kingdom to Mordor and so constantly use their warriors to protect the other inhabitants of Middle-earth from the Dark Lord's creations.
Boromir has the same attitude to the Rings as Isildur, who believed he could wield the Ring for the good of Gondor. Also when Strider, the last chief of the Dúnedain is shown to be Aragorn, Isildur's Heir, Boromir does not believe that he is the man to lead Gondor into a new Age. Even though he is unsure of the quest, Boromir gives his life to the Fellowship.
Boromir carries with him at all times the Horn of Gondor, made from the horn of a wild ox it is said to summon the armies of Gondor to whoever blows it.
